Facebook’s basic version of its app targeted at the emerging markets, called Facebook Lite, has hit around 100 million active monthly users.
Targetted at an audience which still uses 2G connectivity and in areas where network connectivity isn’t great, the Facebook Lite is available in Asia and parts of Latin America, Africa and Europe.
Launched nine months ago in 2015, Facebook Lite now supports more than 50 languages, is smaller than 1 MB, and has rolled out in more than 150 countries through Latin America, Asia, Africa and parts of Europe.
Unlike the previous version of Lite, the newer version will now support video, multiple photo uploads, pinch-to-zoom for photos, emojis, and more.
Facebook also said that it now sees around 142 million monthly active users and 69 million of those check their Facebook accounts daily. Out of these numbers around 133 million are mobile users with around 64 million logging in daily via a mobile device.
